Bringing Down the South

Yep, that’ll be the title of my weekly contribution to the No Option blog for 2007. It’s what needs to happen next. Maybe not this year, but doesn’t this HAVE to be the goal? Nebraska needs to beat Texas and Oklahoma. No, not every single time. BUT CERTAINLY AT LEAST ONE TIME! As of this moment the Huskers are still nothing more than mediocre (preseason #20 and unranked in last year’s final poles). Granted things look promising, but the return to national prominence can’t be assumed.

So that’s the underlying theme of the column, Nebraska v South. Being that I am stuck in Longhornland, I may be able to interject a little perspective on this development (but I wouldn’t count on it). I will probably try to be funny (but don’t expect much. I’m not Jose. I can’t just reverse a few words and get an easy laugh.).

Anyway, enough about UT and OU. Right now, Sker fans have a sexier opponent to daydream about. Yep, I’m already looking forward to USC. I know we have two semi-dangerous opponents to take care of first, a QB that is brand spanking new, and a boatload of other question marks…but I can’t help thinking about the match up with #1, at home in Memorial Stadium. GOOD GOD! That game is going to be insane.

Side bar - Sara wishes she could have married SC quarterback John David Booty so she could take his last name. (Hell, I would marry just about any USC QB - Booty, Leinart, Carson Palmer - all are either loaded or going to be loaded. Anyway, I just can’t see what isn’t awesome about the name Mussmann.

Anyway here is my USC prediction - I think we go to 3-0. Yeah, I’m more optimistic than most of you, but I feel damn good about our team. That is all I will say about that for now.

I guess I better write something about the upcoming Nevada game. I will be in Lincoln for this one and will be watching for the following things:
1) Keller. He hasn’t taken a snap for Nebraska, but I am already developing a man-crush.
2) The D. I am more than a little worried that Cos will hold this team back. Can we ever win it all with him? I don’t know if we can.
3) The RB’s. I am still predicting a huge year out of Marlon Lucky (existing man-crush).
4) The kicking battle. I don’t care who wins…as long as the winner doesn’t end up sucking.

Saturday Prediction: Nebraska 42 Nevada 20

10 Predictions for ’07 (Mark these down):
-Nebraska defeats USC
-Nebraska wins the North
-Lucky will have a monster year and vault himself into the 2008 Heisman watch.
-Final 2007 AP ranking of 12 (or better)
-Ohio will suck.
-Mizzu will NOT be the second best team in the north… that will be Kansas State
-Octavian will terrorize opponents, immediately emerging as the best player on D.
-The national champ will again come out of the SEC.
-Weather for game 1 will be better than last year (I needed a slam dunk).
-I will defeat Bob in beer bonging (assuming he has the courage to show).

See you all Saturday!

I can almost taste the beer bong! Its so good once it hits your lips.
Lucky is going to be a force in the Big XII. I will hold my prediction on USC until week 3, but I am not ruling it out. See you Saturday Muss!
